Manslaughter by Motor Vehicle

Melanie's Law created a new crime called "Manslaughter by Motor Vehicle". If you commit manslaughter while operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you will be convicted of Manslaughter by Motor Vehicle. The penalty for this crime is 5 to 20 years of imprisonment, a fine of not more then $25,000, and your license will be suspended for 15 years to life.

Motor Vehicle Homicide

If you commit a homicide while operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you will be convicted of Motor Vehicle Homicide. Melanie's Law increased the penalty for this crime. The current penalty for Motor Vehicle Homicide is 5 - 20 years imprisonment, a fine of not more than $25,000, and your license will be suspended for 15 years to life.
