Melanie’s Law

Melanie’s Law, passed in late 2005, was enacted to enhance penalties and administrative sanctions for DUI offenders in Massachusetts. The following subsections outline those changes.

• Employing or allowing an unlicensed driver to operate a motor vehicle
• When the state can take away your vehicle
• The ignition interlock device
• Breathalyzer refusal or failure
• If your drunk driving kills someone
• Child endangerment while DUI
• Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol with a suspended license
